I think you all found some really good resources about eco-tourism. One thing I'd like you to consider though, is whether or not your sources have any bias. For example, who wrote Han and Jeongyeon's articles/websites? What is the author's stake in the eco-tourism industry? It looks like Hebe's article gives some good tips to help travelers evaluate eco-tourism options. Do any of you have experience with eco-tourism? Do you think it's a good idea or do you think it's just a gimmick of the tourism industry? What are the advantages and disadvantages of eco-tourism?

I was looking through some old websites and remembered these topics related to travel: voluntourism and house-swaps. Have you heard of these concepts? They're really interesting too! Here's an article about house swaps, if you're interested:

And here's one about voluntourism:

Alyssa,

I've heard about house-swaps before. It looks like a very interesting experience. Once you have to "exchange houses" and in a certain way live "someone's life" for a short period of time. If I am not wrong, there is a move about this kind of tourism... with Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Jack Black named "The Holiday".
About the voluntourism... I never heard this term before, but when I was in college I did something very similar... a group of friend and I went to work as volunteers during our summer vacation at a recycle community in a very poor area in my country. We helped them with the process of recycling, we oriented them about security in the landfield and we helped them how to organize a small business. It was a unbelieveble experience...
